The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Advocates for National Reconciliation, Internal Party Reforms, Stakeholders’ Engagements for promotion of national cohesion and integration among Political Parties and Nigeria at Large – NDUKA ANYANWU
Introduction: Political positions are contestable and all qualified political parties are eligible to go into the race with a formidable candidate and work towards victory for true democracy. In order to address these challenges and prepare for future political tasks, the National Chairman of APGA. Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa has initiated once again a move towards reconciliation, internal party reforms, stakeholders’ engagements etc. This article explores this concept especially in the promotion of national cohesion and integration to avoid the potential for agonistic democracy within the party and national at large.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is a political party in Nigeria that emerged with the aim of promoting national cohesion and integration which are essential for the development and progress of any political party and country generally. The APGA Chairman, suggest on the importance of national cohesion and integration through:
1. Internal Party Reforms: APGA is already undertaking internal party reforms to address historical imbalance, which may involve reviewing and revising party structures, processes, and policies to ensure fairness, transparency, and equal representation towards a more inclusive and representative political inclusion.
2. Engaging Both Internal and External Stakeholders: Engage with both internal and external stakeholders such elected officers in the national, state and local areas, civil society organizations, community leaders and etc. These stakeholders can provide valuable insights, expertise, and resources to support the party’s efforts in addressing historical divisions and promoting dialogue for a better formidable party ahead of the various elections that will be coming up in the nation across the federation.
3. Continuous Communication Channels: Establish continuous communication channels, such as online platforms, newsletters, and regular meetings, to keep party members informed and engaged. – It is of all importance to note that there are always need for a very serious and robust agenda in engaging all party members and secretariats across the nation to help build trust and ensures that all members are kept up to date with party developments, decisions, and initiatives.
4. Unity and Stability: National cohesion and integration promote unity and stability within a diverse political party and country like Nigeria. By fostering a sense of togetherness and shared identity among different ethnic, religious, and cultural groups, it helps to mitigate conflicts and create a harmonious environment for social progress and development
5. Cultural Preservation: Nigeria is a country with rich cultural diversity. APGA, as a political party that emphasizes inclusivity and respect for cultural differences, and this will help play a vital role in ensuring that all cultural groups are given equal representation and opportunities to thrive for national cohesion and stability.
