As Chicago State University prepared to begin complying with the records release on Friday afternoon, the emergency application was submitted.
President Bola Tinubu has submitted an emergency application to have the decision ordering the release of his academic records to Atiku Abubakar reviewed.
In connection with an ongoing election challenge process in Nigeria, Judge Jeffrey Gilbert of the United States District Court had on September 19 ordered Chicago State University to give Mr. Tinubu’s documents to his Nigerian political rival.
The judge ordered that Mr. Abubakar receive the records on September 21. He added that any records that have been released must be certified by school authorities under oath.
However, as the institution was getting ready to divulge the records, Mr. Tinubu filed an emergency application in the district, requesting that a senior judge review Mr. Gilbert’s September 19 order and postpone execution at least until September 25.
