Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso was kicked out from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) by the party’s national executive committee for purportedly neglecting to appear before the disciplinary committee.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) cites an earlier suspension of Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, by the party’s leadership during the National Convention on August 29 in Lagos.

Remember how the NNPP’s National Executive Council (NEC) established a Disciplinary Committee and instructed it to invite Kwankwaso to respond to claims of egregious anti-party behaviour and improper handling of party/campaign funds within five days.

In accordance with the terms of the party’s 2022 (as amended) constitution, Kwankwaso would have been dismissed from the party if he had not appeared before the Disciplinary Committee, the NEC had warned.
Due to Kwankwaso’s unwillingness to accept the committee’s invites, the NEC dismissed him with immediate effect, according to a statement released on Tuesday in Lagos by Mr. Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, the NNPP’s acting national publicity secretary.

According to Abdulrasaq, the NEC convened an emergency meeting on Friday, September 1, and decided as follows: “Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is hereby expelled from NNPP with immediate effect following his refusal to appear before the disciplinary committee which met on Thursday, August 31 after being duly invited in writing.

“Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former presidential contender, will be brought before the competent authorities to address inquiries about financial wrongdoing involving improper use of public funds.”
The NWC of the party loyal to Kwankwaso reportedly announced the suspension of the NNPP founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Agbo Major, on August 24. According to NAN, this sparked a crisis inside the NNPP.
