Investigative work has led us to the conclusion that Tanzania’s former president Jakaya Kikwete rang the Nasdaq closing bell in September 2011.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was allegedly the first African leader to ring the Nasdaq closing bell, according to Ajuri Ngelale, special counsel to the Nigerian president on media and publicity.
In an effort to draw in investors and improve Nigeria’s economic standing on the international stage, President Tinubu rang the Nasdaq closing bell in Times Square, New York, on September 20, 2023.
