Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has emphasized that public opinions cannot override the country’s constitution in determining legal disputes in court.
He swore in 23 newly-appointed judges of the Federal High Court, including his son, Olukayode Ariwoola Jr., and emphasized that the appointment of judges is not to amass wealth or condone any form of wrongdoing.
The National Judicial Council will wield the big stick against any judge found wanting, and the council will never be mistaken for a toothless bulldog.
The CJN urged judges to be honest, impartial, fair, and apply justice in all their undertakings, as the times are perilous.
“Thus, your appointments to the bench at this crucial period of our national history are not by accident but by divine ordination.”
