Students at Imo State University (IMSU) refused to allow Governor Hope Uzodinma to speak to them during his campaign, as electricity workers cut off power supply for four days.
The students chanted “no light” as the governor mounted the rostrum, citing the strike over the assault on NLC president Joe Ajaero.
The state is set to elect its next governor on Saturday, generating controversies due to police, security operatives, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Uzodinma claimed that the attack on Ajaero was due to his involvement in partisan politics. The NLC confirmed Ajaero’s assault as “attempted murder.” Governor Uzodinma, who is facing reelection, defended his actions, stating that he stopped the NLC’s national leadership from dissolving the Imo State chapter of the Congress. He urged people to be cautious and not to engage in partisan politics or blackmail the government.
