Two weeks before the Independent National Electoral Commission’s deadline of October 9, 2023 for the collection of the cards ahead of the November 11 off-cycle governorship elections in the three states, voters in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states have yet to collect over 241, 715 Permanent Voter Cards.
Not less than 134,000 voter registration cards had not yet been claimed by potential voters in Imo State, whilst 107,715 voter cards were ready for pickup in Kogi. The number of unclaimed PVC cards in Bayelsa State, however, was not accessible.
The electoral commission has cautioned registered voters not give up on picking up their cards, however it has stated that it will not extend the PVCs collecting in the states.
There was no going back on the October 9 deadline, according to both the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, and the Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Gabriel Longpet.
