The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has issued a final warning to Arise Television over the use of derogatory and incendiary remarks on its programmes.
The letter, signed by NBC’s Director-General, Dr Balarabe Ilelah, urged the TV station to install a delay mechanism to avoid unwanted content.
The warning comes eight months after the Commission fined Arise TV N2m for breaching Nigeria’s broadcasting codes.
The letter cited the station’s morning show program on October 5 featuring guests Oladokun Hassan and Dele Farotimi, which contained unguarded incendiary remarks.
The commission also accused Arise TV of defaulting on its responsibility while airing its Newsday program featuring the Labour Party spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo, who used derogatory remarks on air.
Arise TV was fined N2m for “unprofessional broadcasts” in February 2023, including a Presidential campaign rally in Delta State and mockery of the APC presidential candidate by Dino Melaye.
