Due to a lack of water, Johannesburg, South Africa’s water suppliers have urged citizens to take only a two-minute bath.
On Sunday, the water utility firms Rand Water and Johannesburg Water claimed that a large amount of water consumption by residents “is putting a strain on the system” and causing low water reservoir levels.
The firms advised residents to cut back on their water use by taking only two-minute showers, flushing the toilets only after lengthy phone calls, and only washing automobiles on the weekends.
Residents were also encouraged to remedy or report water leaks and to refrain from watering lawns and gardens with clean water.
Annual water limits have been in place for Johannesburg, and they frequently last during the dry season, which in South Africa runs from September to March.
When the overall reservoir capacity of Rand Water decreased from 52% to 35%, the restrictions became effective.
