Yesterday in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu voiced his support for a collaboration between the Peek Vision Foundation and the National Eye Health Programme of the Federal Ministry of Health to give more than 5 million pairs of spectacles to Nigerians who are visually impaired.
The president recalled how personal his initial intervention in eye health was, a presidential spokeswoman said in a statement.
“My mother, may she rest in peace, gave me my first encounter. She was sick and unable to recognise me. She was given medical attention and a pair of spectacles when I interfered.
She then inquired, “I have you, and you are capable of doing this for me. Where are those other mothers and their children?
“So I made a promise to her that I would pursue the mass provision of eye care vigorously & that I would provide free eye screenings & surgeries to people.
