The Nigerian Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential poll, with Tinubu scoring 8.7 million votes.

The panel nullified the petitions of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who polled 6.9 million and 6.1 million votes, respectively. The tribunal, chaired by Justice Haruna Tsammani and assisted by Justices Stephen Adah, Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Moses Ugo, and Abba Mohammed, has generated heated debates and mixed reactions among Nigerians, especially on social media.

Justices Bolaji-Yusuf and Ugo presented various justifications before deciding the case, such as not scouting for evidence or being persuaded by threats on social media. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) status and the claim that the election winner must score 25% in the nation’s capital were also contentious issues.

The judgment has sparked debate among political pundits and legal experts, with some arguing that the judiciary has made progress, while others argue that there are still grey areas that need to be addressed.
