A 20-year-old University of Ilorin student, Sanni Hameedat, committed suicide after lending a boy she met on Snapchat N500,000.
The private hostel management claimed the cause was financial misappropriation and pressure from app agents demanding fast repayment, leading to depression. Hameedat was undergoing her SIWES program before the incident. To make up the missing N500,000, she borrowed money from various apps, adding her savings of N50,000.

The incident occurred the previous night, when Hameedat ingested a bottle of Sniper. Her roommate discovered her in distress and was rushed to UITH before being declared dead. The Student Union President, Ologundudu Adesunkanmi, confirmed the incident and reported it to authorities for a full-length investigation.
