The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria have decided to go on a statewide, indefinite strike, which would begin on October 3, 2023.
This was declared by the Nigeria Civil Service Union in a circular distributed on Tuesday and acquired by SaharaReporters. Comrade Sanni Rasheed, the AGS/HOD Organisation and State Council Affairs for the General Secretary, signed it. The document’s title was “Notice of Nationwide Indefinite Strike Action by the Congress.”
“Warm federal greetings from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),” it stated. As a result of today’s (September 26, 2023) National Executive Council meeting, which was just ended, the NEC in session decided to immediately begin a statewide indefinite strike action from Tuesday, 3rd of October 2023.
The difficulty faced by Nigerian workers and citizens as a result of the abrupt elimination of petroleum subsidies without any palliative measures implemented by the federal government led to the decision to start the industrial action.
In view of the foregoing, I have received the leadership’s directive to inform your respective councils to join the state congress and mobilise heavily for our members to actively engage in the upcoming indefinite action called by the congress.
