The Nigerian government has reiterated its resolve to stop youngsters from using tobacco products illegally and smoking in public.
Jamila Ibrahim, Nigeria’s Minister of Youth and Development, underlined the significance of informing Nigerians about the negative health effects of youth tobacco use.
In order to reduce secondhand smoking, the government would prioritise the health of adolescents and collaborate with the tobacco prohibition in public areas. Leading advocacy group Tobacco Control Programme (AFRO) Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids has been educating Nigerians about the risks associated with tobacco use for more than 25 years.
In order to protect their earnings, tobacco corporations specifically target young people, and Nigeria is the most significant market in Africa with a big youth population. It is imperative that the nation’s tobacco smoking regulation be put into effect and enforced especially for young people.
