Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced plans to begin protests in Imo State from November 1, citing alleged violations of workers’ rights and privileges by Governor Hope Uzodimma’s government.
The NLC president, Joe Ajaero, stated that the state government has consistently breached agreements despite dialogues, leading to mass protests and industrial actions.
The NLC is concerned about the persistent and egregious violations of workers’ rights in Imo State, including outstanding salary arrears, gratuity arrears, and non-compliance with the national minimum wage.
The NLC is calling on the government to honor its obligations and recommit to respecting workers’ rights and privileges. Ajaero warned the government of Imo state that they would hold the governor accountable if any worker or trade union leader was injured during the protests.
