Two kids have reportedly been arrested by the Ogun police command for lighting their school in the Isheri-Olofin neighbourhood of Ifo Local Government on fire.

The minors, ages six and nine, apparently broke into an open classroom at Community Primary School, Isheri Olofin, on Sunday and set fire to books that students and instructors had left behind. This was revealed in a statement released by SP Omolola Odutola, the state police spokesperson, on Monday.

A village chairman had reported the incident to the police, according to the PPRO.
“Two students from Community Primary School, Isheri Olofin, who are residents of the Isheri Olofin community and are six and nine years old, respectively, have been apprehended for setting fire to their school and school properties on October 29, 2023,” she said.

The police’s anti-crime and detective section, according to Ms. Odutola, visited the area after receiving the allegation and took the alleged minors to the police station to be questioned.

She clarified that “because this is a very serious crime for these children to get themselves involved in,” the police had begun asking for information on how to get in touch with their parents.

In the meanwhile, she said, if there was anyone else who might have provoked the kids, the police would investigate and notify the public when appropriate.
