Nigeria’s government has warned the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress against a nationwide strike. The government called on the unions to avoid actions that could undermine court orders.
The National Industrial Court had restrained the NLC and TUC from industrial action over the removal of fuel subsidy. The government argued that the planned strike would violate the court’s subsisting order.
The minister of justice, Lateef Fagbemi, urged the unions to respect the court’s order and allow room for ongoing negotiations.

The government expects the unions to lead in obedience and observance of court orders.
